The “Beach” Treatment for Adrenal Health

The Beach Treatment is a specialized electroacupuncture technique aimed at supporting and revitalizing the adrenal glands. The Beach Treatment protocol provides a direct approach to alleviating adrenal fatigue and rebalancing the nervous system. This method focuses on using specific acupuncture points and frequency settings to regulate the sympathetic and parasympathetic responses, making it one of the most powerful tools available in electroacupuncture training for treating adrenal health.

In this training episode, we’ll explore each step of the Beach Treatment for adrenal support, including how to set up the devices, select the proper acupuncture points, and utilize carrier wave setups for optimal treatment outcomes.

Understanding the Beach Treatment and Its Purpose

The Beach Treatment is designed to relieve stress on the adrenal glands by “turning off” sympathetic overdrive and charging the adrenal tissues directly with energy. Many of our patients face chronic stress, which keeps the adrenal glands in a state of constant demand, draining their energy reserves over time. This acupuncture treatment for adrenal support helps break that cycle, allowing the adrenal glands to recover, restore their function, and better support the body's overall energy levels.

The protocol involves electroacupuncture techniques using electroacupuncture devices and specific frequency settings. Through this targeted approach, we can work directly with the neural links to the adrenal glands and ensure the treatment is both effective and comfortable for patients.

Key Components of the Beach Treatment for Adrenal Glands

The Beach Treatment acupuncture protocol includes several essential elements:

  • Using T12-L1 acupuncture points to target the neural pathways directly connected to the adrenal glands.
  • Applying a carrier wave setup in electroacupuncture to “blanket” the area with voltage.
  • Choosing appropriate frequency settings for optimal adrenal support, with a focus on low frequencies that encourage parasympathetic activation.
  • Carefully adjusting power levels for patient comfort.

Step-by-Step Guide to the Beach Treatment Protocol

Let’s dive into the specific steps of performing the Beach Treatment.

Step 1: Prepare the Equipment and Acupuncture Points

To perform the Beach Treatment, you’ll need two electroacupuncture devices. Ideally, one device should be set at a treatment frequency and the other as a carrier wave. For this protocol, the Huatojiaji points at T12 and L1 are the primary acupuncture points to access the neural pathways associated with adrenal function. These points are located one finger-width away from the spine at the T12 and L1 vertebral levels.

  1. Position the Patient: Have the patient lie comfortably on their side. If needed, place a pillow under their head to ensure they are relaxed.
  2. Identify the Points: Locate T12 and L1 by palpating along the spine. Insert needles at these Huatojiaji points on both sides of the spine.
  3. Set Up Carrier and Treatment Frequencies: Label one device as the carrier (C) and the other as the treatment (T) to avoid confusion. For the carrier device, set the frequency at its highest setting, typically around 513 Hz on common electroacupuncture machines. The treatment device should be set at a low frequency of 1-4 Hz, ideal for adrenal support.

Step 2: Setting the Frequency and Power

Frequency acupuncture treatment settings are critical in the Beach Treatment. The choice of 1 Hz for treatment is because it supports adrenal function without overstimulating. By using the 513 Hz frequency as a carrier wave, the low voltage device can “blanket” the adrenal area in voltage, making it easier for the 1 Hz treatment frequency to reach its target.

  • Dial In the Power: Begin with a low power setting, then gradually increase it until the patient feels a light buzzing or tapping sensation. Ask the patient to describe the intensity (light, moderate, or heavy) to ensure the treatment is comfortable.
  • Adjust Based on Patient Feedback: If the patient reports a sensation that’s too intense, reduce the power level slightly. The aim is to achieve a light-to-moderate sensation to avoid overstimulation.

Step 3: Monitoring During Treatment

The Beach Treatment protocol usually runs for 20 minutes. This time frame allows the parasympathetic response to kick in, reducing adrenal stress and supporting the patient’s overall nervous system acupuncture. Keeping a timer helps you monitor the session and ensure the treatment duration is precise.

  1. Ask for Feedback: Periodically check in with the patient. If they feel a light buzzing or tapping, the power settings are likely at the right level.
  2. Avoid Overstimulation: If the sensation becomes too intense, lower the power settings slightly to keep the treatment within a comfortable range.

The goal here is to support adrenal function by reducing sympathetic signaling. Running the session for 8 minutes or less can accidentally trigger a sympathetic response, so sticking with the 20-minute duration is essential.

Beach Treatment Modifications: Ear Acupuncture and Alternate Points

For patients who are uncomfortable lying on their sides or have difficulty accessing the Huatojiaji points, you can modify the Beach Treatment to be performed on the ear acupuncture points.

Ear Acupuncture Beach Treatment

Spinal levels are mapped on the ear, allowing you to locate T12 and L1 points auricularly. Here’s how:

  1. Use the Pointoselect: Identify the deficient area in the T12 and L1 zones on the ear using the Pointoselect device.
  2. Needling and Stimulation: Insert needles at these points and apply the same carrier and treatment frequency settings as the standard Beach Treatment.

Alternate Beach Treatment for the Body

For high voltage devices, the Beach Treatment protocol can be simplified by using only one point, such as Du 4 (Mingmen) at the L1 level. This allows the voltage to carry along the spine to T12-L1 without needing multiple needles, which is especially useful when time or resources are limited.

Why the Beach Treatment Works for Adrenal Support

The effectiveness of the Beach Treatment lies in its ability to directly support adrenal health without overstimulating the gland. By targeting adrenal gland acupuncture points with appropriate frequency settings, the treatment taps into the adrenal’s energy reserves while also calming the nervous system. This protocol’s use of low-frequency and carrier wave setups makes it one of the most effective electroacupuncture protocols for managing adrenal fatigue and stress.

Key Benefits of the Beach Treatment:

  • Reduces Sympathetic Overdrive: By turning off excessive sympathetic signals, this treatment lets the adrenals “rest” and recover.
  • Direct Adrenal Support: The treatment increases voltage to the adrenals, giving them the energy they need to function.
  • Improves Parasympathetic Activation: This treatment balances the nervous system, helping patients achieve a relaxed, calm state.

Additional Considerations for Practitioners

Here are some important factors to consider when performing the Beach Treatment for adrenal support:

  • Monitor Blood Pressure: For patients with adrenal fatigue, blood pressure readings can provide insights into cortisol and adrenaline levels. Use this information to adjust your acupuncture treatment for optimal results.
  • Supplemental Support: Encourage patients to consider vitamin C, B vitamins, and magnesium. These supplements are beneficial for adrenal health and support the treatment’s effects.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: Using the Beach Treatment protocol consistently with your patients will help refine your technique and increase the effectiveness of the treatment.

Integrating the Beach Treatment Into Your Practice

Adding the Beach Treatment protocol to your repertoire provides a powerful way to address adrenal fatigue and support adrenal function in your patients. This treatment is particularly beneficial for individuals with high-stress lifestyles, chronic fatigue, or those experiencing hormonal imbalances related to adrenal health.
